Water – Sustainable Use of a Special Cultural Possession in the Arabic Region

Goals and Objectives of the Project
The goal of this project is an interdisciplinary, project-oriented training in the water subjects. This training shall demonstrate all uses of the resource throughout the entire water cycle, as well as economic consequences.
The objective is to establish a German-Arabic network. Different universities and representatives from, for now, three countries of the Arab region namely Algeria, Jordan and Syria are to be involved. Students undertaking their undergraduate and graduate studies (Bachelor, Master and PhD students) are welcome to take part.

Work and Action Plan
Various lectures, seminars, excursions, workshops etc. are planned to be held alternately in Jordan, Syria and Algeria in the course of three years. Additionally, a 20-day summer school shall take place in Berlin every year. To each of these events five participants of each of the five partaking universities will be invited. Teaching is conducted in English, the necessary language proficiency is assumed.

Interdisciplinarity of the Departments
An interdisciplinary co-operation takes place between the single departments. In addition to the wholly water related orientation of the group, sociological and socio-economical aspects will be covered in the course "Integrated Water Resource Management". Historical and philosophical views next to legal aspects shall be taken into account as well. This broad scope of the single disciplines is to be produced by, among other things, an alternating participation of the departments during the seminars.
