Meteorological Observatory of Institute of Meteorology (FU Berlin)
Lupe

The 2nd Community Forum El Gouna 2030 continues the series of academic events that take place in the Campus El Gouna of Technische Universität Berlin besides the Master's Degree Programs started in October 2012.
The Community Forum El Gouna 2030 was established in September 2012 as result of the Future Workshop El Gouna 2030. The Community Forum El Gouna 2030 is a platform for a continuous and systematic presentation and discussion of strategic topics of the urban development of El Gouna and its neighborhood in the Red Sea Region. In particular the Community Forum promotes and supports the development of El Gouna to a Green City.
The event is organised by Freie Universität Berlin in cooperation with TU Berlin’s Young Cities Project, the West Asia North Africa Cooperation Unit (WANACU) and the management of El Gouna.
The workshop is embedded in a field campaign of the Meteorological Department of Freie Universität Berlin measuring key data of El Gouna's climate situation. This project is financially supported by German Academic Exchange Service DAAD.

Topics
The Workshop and 2nd Community Forum 'El Gouna 2030' brings together two key topics: The first part of the Community Forum will focus on the analytical dimension of the topic. Here the following questions and topics will be discussed:

  • What tools are available and how is the analysis practically conducted?
  • How can the data integrated in models and simulation tools?
  • What is the state of practical experience in this field?
  • Has any work been done already in El Gouna and its neighborhood?

The second day puts the focus on the integration of climatological and meteorological aspects into urban planning and other measurements.
Thematic fields are:

  • Integration of climate analysis in urban planning and plans
  • Activities to improve the existing building stock
  • Framing conditions in legislation
  • Framing conditions in economy and financing
  • Perspectives of implementation in El Gouna and the Red Sea Region

Participants

  • Academics
  • Egyptian and German students
  • representatives of organisations, companies and other institutions that are interested in, responsible for or involved in the development of the community of El Gouna and the regional neighbourhood.
